Fact Check: Rep. Jasmine Crockett Does NOT Have Net Worth Of $9 Million Rep. Says No

Does Jasmine Crockett, a U.S. congresswoman from Texas, have a net worth of $9 million and own properties worth $5 million? No, that's not true: Her latest financial disclosure report shows that her net worth is somewhere between -$46,997 and $29,999. Crockett said that a post claiming she was worth millions was "a lie", describing the story as "outlandish."

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) on X on February 13, 2025. It read:

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has a reported net worth of $9 million despite being paid $174,000/year. Jasmine Crockett owns $2M townhouse in Dallas $1.5M loft in Austin, Texas $1.5M lakefront cabin in Galveston, Texas. Crockett's net worth grew substantially last year during the 2024 election. Do you think members of Congress use their positions to self enrich themselves?

This is what the post looked like on social media at the time of writing:

Crockett's latest financial disclosure report (archived here) shows her net worth is somewhere between -$46,997 and $29,999. Congressional representatives provide ranges for their assets and liabilities. Lead Stories calculated the above two numbers by subtracting Crockett's minimum debt figure from her maximum asset figure, and by subtracting her maximum debt figure from her minimum asset figure.

Note that while the numbers provide a range, not all assets are required to be disclosed. According to OpenSecrets (archived here), a nonprofit that tracks money in politics, excluded assets include personal residences that do not produce income, congressional salaries and retirement accounts from employment with the federal government.

Lead Stories also searched property records in Texas. Searches in Galveston and Austin (archived here and here) did not turn up any properties in Crockett's name. A search in Dallas did (archived here), but the property listed is not estimated to be worth $2 million, as the post claims.

The post on X did not provide any evidence to back up its claim.

Crockett responded to the story, saying it was a lie and "outlandish." She wrote:

PLEASE POST the tax assessor links to my lavish cribs... I need to see the addresses and see if these people will give me keys since the properties are mine lol.

Lead Stories reached out to Crockett to ask about the claim. We will update this story, as appropriate, if we receive a response.
