Barack Obama's been president for almost seven years but still a sizable number of Americans think he's a Muslim born in another country, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Sunday, September 13, 2015.

Obama has been a longtime member of a Protestant church and an authenticated birth certificate confirmed he was born in Hawaii -- which is one of the 50 states that make up the United States of America. Obama's father was a Kenyan, but his mother was an American from Kansas.

While 39% correctly knew that Obama is a Protestant Christian, 29% told pollsters they believed he was Muslim. Another 11% believed he was not religious and 12% said they didn't know.

A 59% majority correctly responded that Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and another 16% knew his birthplace was somewhere in the United States, the poll measured 13% believing the president was born in another country.

The CNN/ORC survey puts his overall approval rating at 45% and disapproval at 52%.
