Donald Trump says he'll talk to the National Rifle Association about dropping its opposition to a federal ban on selling guns to people on the terror watch list. Trump, who was endorsed last month by the NRA, tweeted his plan Wednesday after it was revealed that Orlando shooter Omar Mateen bought an assault rifle, 9mm handgun and ammunition despite being investigated by the FBI on suspicion of terrorist intents.

"I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns," Trump wrote.

The U.S. Senate rejected a provision earlier this year to prohibit anyone on the terror watch lists from being sold firearms. While they are not allowed to fly on commercial airplanes, they can buy and possess assault rifles.

A new report says that 9 of 10 people on the terror watch list who have tried to buy a gun were successful in doing so.
