Ted Cruz is hoping Donald Trump's bathroom etiquette will cost him Republican votes. Cruz, who is hoping to force a brokered GOP convention by slowing Trump's delegate roll, attached the frontrunner for suggesting North Carolina's new bathroom law is unnecessary and bad for business.

"He said he thought men should be able to go into the girls bathroom if they want," Cruz said Thursday after hearing Trump's comments on NBC's "Today" show. "Let me ask you, have we gone stark raving mad? This is political correctness. This is nonsense."

North Carolina has been targeted by boycotts from businesses and entertainers after its governor signed the law requiring citizens to only use toilets designated for the gender listed on their birth certificates, regardless of any sex transitions they may have undergone.

Trump told NBC he did not like the idea of asking businesses to build separate bathrooms for transgender people because that would be expensive and "discriminatory in a certain way."

Cruz told an audience Thursday that the issue is one of "basic common sense."

"Grown adult men, strangers should not be alone in bathrooms with little girls," Cruz said.
