Donald Trump apparently never read the article he's using to support his charge that many of the undocumented immigrants crossing into the United States from Mexico are rapists, according to the reporter who wrote the story.

Erin Siegel McIntyre told CNN Thursday that she is "baffled" by Trump's conclusions and immigrants raping other immigrants "had nothing to do" with her investigative report.

Trump's allegation made when he announced he was running for president last month triggered a series of Trump dumping decisions, including NBC and Univision dropping the billionaire's Miss USA pageant from their TV schedule.

Trump, in an interview with CNN's Don Lemon, pointed to a 2014 Fusion.net report headlined "Is rape the price to pay for migrant women chasing the American Dream?" as evidence that men crossing from Mexico were mostly rapists.

"It's unbelievable when you look at what's going on," Trump told CNN. "So all I'm doing is telling the truth!"

When Lemon tried to point out that Trump was misinterpreting the article, Trump responded "Somebody's doing the raping!"

The 2014 Fusion.net report, headlined "Is rape the price to pay for migrant women chasing the American Dream?" accused "criminal gangs, people traffickers, other migrants or corrupt officials" in Central America -- not the United States -- of being the rapists.
