The decision by Sen. Barbara Mikulski appears to give President Obama enough support to prevent senators from killing the historic Iran nuclear agreement.

Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, became the 34th senator to announce support, which means the opposition would not have the needed two-thirds to override a veto of a resolution killing the deal.

"No deal is perfect, especially one negotiated with the Iranian regime," Sen. Mikulski said. "I have concluded that this Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is the best option available to block Iran from having a nuclear bomb. For these reasons, I will vote in favor of this deal. However, Congress must also reaffirm our commitment to the safety and security of Israel."

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before cameras soon after Mikulski's announcement Wednesday to defend the plan and discuss how the United States would take steps to protect Israel. The "framework will get the job done."

Obama and Kerry spent much of August pushing for the votes to protect the multi-national pact negotiated to stop Iran's path to a nuclear weapon, which administration officials have said could have been months away.
