Philadelphia's Daily News made the point graphically on the newspaper's front page with a photo of Donald Trump raising his right hand as if giving a Nazi salute during a speech. The headline was a clever pun: "The New Furor: Trump's Latest Hair-Raising Idea" Keep Out All Muslims"

Trumps reaction was simply it is "another newspaper going out of business."

The reaction to Trump's stunning proposal, however, has been harsh and across the board from Democrats and Republicans alike. Former Vice President Dick Cheney, no friend to liberals, said it "goes against everything we stand for and believe in" because "religious freedom's been a very important part of our history."

GOP presidential rival Jeb Bush suggested the idea showed Trump was "unhinged." Republican contender Lindsey Graham tweeted that Trump's "bombastic rhetoric" puts "at risk the lives of interpreters, American supporters, diplomats, & the troops in the region." He told an interviewer on Tuesday: "You know how you make America Great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell."

Ted Cruz, who is the runner-up to Trump in many GOP presidential polls, said he disagreed the plan, but he wouldn't jump on the bandwagon of condemning Trump. "I don't believe the world needs my voice to be added to that chorus of criticism," Sen. Cruz said.

Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton tweeted that Trump's idea "plays right into the hands of terrorists."

Declaring war on Islam or demonizing Muslim Americans is not only counter to our values--it plays right into the hands of terrorists.

In a remarkable interview withTrump Tuesday, CNN's Chris Cuomo suggested the Muslim ban talk supports the ISIS terror group's recruiting message.

"I don't understand how you can see banning an entire religion as a way of saying anything other than, 'We are what ISIS says we are. We want a war against Islam. That's who America is.' And as you know -- or you should know -- that's not who America is, Mr. Trump."
