Aunt Fight! Bobbi Kristina Brown's Family Feud

  • by: Alan Duke

One of Bobbi Kristina Brown's aunts interrupted her private funeral service to verbally attack an aunt from the Houston side of the family.

"Whitney is rolling over in her grave!" Leolah Brown shouted "You are so wrong for this, Pat!" She was referring to Pat Houston, the sister-in-law of Whitney Houston.

Leolah Brown was escorted from the church sanctuary, but later allowed to return. She posted this explanation on her Facebook page: "its like... im the youngest of my siblings so i naturally feel like im sposed to protekt my younger kousins, especially the females.. but now my lil kousin Bobbi Kristina is gone at 22.. i was unable to protekt her.. i hate this.. all i kan do is avenge her now.. i kno sumone did this to her"

Bitter squabbling between the Houston and Brown aunts erupted days before both sides of her family gathered in an Atlanta church for her funeral. The family feud is similar to what happened after Brown's mother Whitney Houston died in a hotel bathtub in 2012. Bobby Brown abruptly left his ex-wife's funeral after a security guard ordered his entourage to move from a forward pew.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, 22, was pronounced dead at an Atlanta-area hospice on Sunday, July 26, 2015 -- six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub. She never regained consciousness over the next five months and was moved to the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia, on June 24 after doctors convinced her family there was no hope of recovery.

Days after a family statement said "She is finally at peace in the arms of God," the aunt fight began. Aunt Leolah Brown, the sister of her father Bobby Brown, led the way with a Facebook posting accusing Aunt Pat Houston, the wife of Whitney Houston's brother and the person controlling the late singer's estate, of trying to profit off the funeral.

A memo sent to everyone invited to Saturday's service asked that instead of sending flowers that mourners contribute to a foundation controlled by Pat Houston, according to Leolah Brown and one other Lead Stories source.

"This is nothing more than another scheme of Pat Houston, to try to get money put into her account for her personal gain," Leolah Brown wrote. "There is much evil hidden behind this foundation."

When Pat Houston appeared to ignore the slam, Leolah Brown wrote that her silence was an admission of guilt "because SHE CANNOT talk back to truth. She has no leg to stand on."

Bad feelings between the Browns and the Houstons erupted during the funeral for Whitney Houston, including a decision by Bobby Brown to leave before it was over when a Houston security officer requested that he and his entourage move from a pew in the front of the church to one in the back.

Bobbi Kristina will be buried next to her mother in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.

The R&B singer issued this statement Monday about the loss of his daughter: "Krissy was and is an angel. I am completely numb at this time. My family must find a way to live with her in spirit and honor her memory. Our loss is unimaginable. We thank everyone for the prayers for Krissy and our family as we mourn my baby girl."

Preliminary results of an autopsy offered no new insight into Whitney Houston's daughter suffered the brain injury that ended her life. The Fulton County, Georgia, medical examiner confirmed his office is helping with the criminal investigation into her death being conducted by the Roswell, Georgia, police.

"Despite the long interval between her being found unresponsive and her death, an autopsy will still be necessary to further evaluate possible causes of death or contributing factors," the medical examiner's written statement said. "The time which has elapsed between the initial event on January 31st and her resulting death will complicate reconstruction of the events surrounding her initial unresponsiveness. Interpretation of autopsy findings and other information will also be challenging. However, an autopsy could be helpful to address questions which may arise about the cause of her unresponsiveness and eventual death."

Detectives in Roswell, where Brown lived with boyfriend Nick Gordon, confirmed months ago that they were investigating Gordon's possible role. Gordon has remained free, although he did spend several weeks in a south Georgia rehab center for admitted substance abuse.

Gordon told investigators he and another man found Brown face down in her tub that Saturday morning, but the court-appointed conservative for Brown filed a lawsuit in June alleging that he had an active role in causing her fatal condition.

"Brown suffered extreme visible life altering bodily harm as the result of the defendant's outrageous, unwanted, harmful and offensive contact," the suit, which seeks at least $10 million in damages, contends.

The petition claims that Gordon's earlier physical abuse of Brown caused her to loose a tooth and that she lost a second tooth in an argument the morning she was rushed to a hospital.

The lawsuit also offers a theory as to Gordon's motive. It alleges that Brown "confided to someone that defendant was not the man she thought he was and set up a time on January 31 to meet with this person to further discuss this revelation."

The lawsuit contends Gordon first held himself out to be Brown's surrogate "brother," but became her "boyfriend" after Houston's death in a Beverly Hills Hotel tub in February 2012 -- which resulted in the singer's daughter inheriting "a substantial sum." Gordon, who later held himself out as her "husband" in a "fraud," allegedly took control of Brown's money and limited her contact with anyone else.

Gordon's mother sent a written statement to Lead Stories offering condolences to the Houston and Brown families.

"The passing of Bobbi Kristina is devastating to Nick and our family. "Nick loved and cared for Krissi deeply, and he has suffered greatly each and every day they've been apart," Michelle Gordon said. "Nick and our family are in mourning, and we ask that you respect our privacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the Houstons and the Browns during this difficult time."

Bobbi Kristina was just six when her mom called her up on a stage in Poland to sing "My Love is Your Love" in 1999. Watch the video:
