Fact Check: Marjorie Taylor Greene DID Post 'Evil is Being Defeated' After Death of Pope Francis Authentic Post

Did Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene post that "evil is being defeated", shortly after the death of Pope Francis was announced on April 21, 2025? Yes, that's true: Screenshots of the X post were shared widely online, especially among those critical of what they interpreted as a celebratory reference to the death of the pontiff. The Georgia Congresswoman also wrote that there had been "major shifts in global leaderships."

The post was presented as authentic in an April 21, 2025, post on X (archived here), along with the following description:

MAGA Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene seemingly celebrated Pope Francis's death with the tweet 'Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.'

This is what it looked like at the time of writing:

That screenshot was authentic, and showed a real X post published by Taylor Greene earlier that day. At 10:44am Eastern time, the Congresswoman wrote on X:

Today there were major shifts in global leaderships.

Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.

It's not clear what Taylor Greene was referring to, but some observers interpreted it as a reference to the death of Pope Francis, which was announced at 9:35am Central European Time, nearly six hours earlier. A spokesperson for the Congresswoman did not immediately respond to a request for clarification.
