Fact Check: Trump Did NOT Post That He Gave The Pope His Job And Ordered Todd Blanche To Investigate Catholic Church -- It's A Fake Post Fake Post

Did President Donald Trump post on social media saying he gave Pope Leo XIV his job and that he ordered acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to investigate the Catholic Church? No, that's not true: The fake screenshot with a blue verification badge was made to look like a post from @realDonaldTrump on the X platform -- but Trump has not posted on X since March 2, 2026. Trump's X account carries a grey verification badge signifying a government official. These comments were also not posted on the @realDonaldTrump account on Truth Social where the verification badge is pink. It is a fake screenshot.

The fake screenshot appeared in a post (archived here) published on X by @gnuman1979 on April 15, 2026. The post was captioned:

So Trump picks the Pope now?

This is the image included with the post:

The text in the image reads:

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

It's no coincidence that this Pope is from the same city as that liberal dog Obama. He wants to do is humiliate Trump when the only reason he has the job is because I gave it to him. Wish he would take his little biscuits or Wafers or whatever the hell it is you people eat and go somewhere else. JD Vance has it right the Pope needs to stick his finger somewhere else besides America. Ordering Todd Blanche to investigate the Catholic Church immediately I'm sure he can find something.

The most recent post on the @realDonaldTrump account on X (archived here) was made on March 2, 2026 and is pinned to the top of the page. This account has a grey verification badge which according to the X help center (archived here) is for governments and multilateral organizations. The fake screenshot shows a blue verification badge which would signify the account "has an active subscription to X Premium and meets the eligibility requirements" (archived here). The screenshot is clearly fake because the verification badge color does not match the badge on the @realDonaldTrump account, and the post is not there.

The Truth Social verification badge is pink, and the profile picture on Trump's @realDonaldTrump account (archived here) there has a graphic with a flag superimposed over his face (pictured below).

A search on Google News (archived here) for the first sentence in the fake post, "It's no coincidence that this Pope is from the same city as that liberal dog Obama" produced only one result. It is a fact check (archived here) from Meaww.com concluding Trump never made such a post. A Yahoo News search for another sentence, "Ordering Todd Blanche to investigate the Catholic Church immediately" produced no results at all (archived here).
