Fact Check: Trump Did NOT Repost Crucifixion Image Depicting Himself As Jesus Christ Jesus Trump

Did President Donald Trump repost an image depicting him as Jesus Christ being crucified? No, that is not true: There is no credible evidence that the president ever shared such a post on his Truth Social account, and no verified record or archive of it appearing on his official feed. There is also no evidence that the person credited with creating the post that Trump allegedly shared actually did so. In fact, that individual denied having done so.

The claim appeared in a post and image (archived here) by the @joncooper-us.bsky.social account on Bluesky on May 1, 2026. It read:

In case you're wondering, this is a real post.

Lead Stories manually reviewed Trump's Truth Social account for recent posts containing a post depicting Trump as the crucified Christ. The team also searched Trump's Truth -- a website that archives Trump's Truth Social posts -- for the same post from April 27 to May 4, 2026. No matching posts were found (archived here), and no date appears on the fake post.

The fake post by the president included another fake post by Cody Simpson, a Trump-endorsed candidate for South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture. While Trump shared a screenshot of a Simpson post (archived here) as recently as April 9, 2026, there is no evidence that Simpson created the one depicting Trump as Christ on the cross.

In reality, Simpson pushed back against the image in a post (archived here) on the @codyforsc account on Truth Social on May 1, 2026. He said:

My opposition is stooping to the lowest of lows - sowing seeds of blasphemy - generating a deepfake AI graphic that is extremely offensive and heretical. Obviously, I did not create this nor would I ever post this. While I greatly respect our President and the job he is doing and am honored to have his trust and support - I only bend my knee to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching reports for "They're persecuting @realDonaldTrump more than they persecuted him," the text in the fake Simpson post with Trump as Christ. Had the president actually made or shared such a post, major news outlets would have widely reported it.
