Did X owner Elon Musk say that he was "trying to do the greatest amount of good with the limited time I have on Earth"? No, that's not true: His account on the social media platform didn't show such a quote. Lead Stories didn't find any credible sources confirming that those were his actual words.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X by @Elonspacemedia on July 27, 2026. It opened:
I'm simply trying to do the greatest amount of good with the limited time I have on Earth.' -- Elon Musk

Despite having a blue checkmark (archived here), the account that published the post reviewed in this fact check was not Musk's real account.
A search across his actual account on X (@elonmusk) for the exact wording showed no matches:

A search (archived here) outside of the major social media platforms didn't produce a credible source, confirming the X owner ever said what was attributed to him.
A search on Google News (archived here) didn't show credible reporting attributing the quote in question to Musk, either.
