Does a screenshot show a post made by a real California congressman, Jack Kimble, that includes an AI-generated image of an idealized American family? No, that's not true: Kimble is a fictional satirical politician, not a real congressman from California. His X account does not have a clearly stated satire disclaimer, but clues are offered in the account's bio.

The screenshot does show a real post (archived here) from the X account @RepJackKimble (embedded below) but it's a satire account that began in June 2009. Several of the fake congressman's posts have gone viral, including one from July 7, 2026, in which he claimed he had spoken with Sen. Mitch McConnell (archived here). The Rep. Jack Kimble account bio (archived here) says:

There are only 52 congressional districts in California, so Kimble could not represent the 54th (archived here). The bio also states that he is a co-sponsor of Poe's Law. Lead Stories used the Hive Moderation browser extension to review the image posted by the Kimble account (archived here). It returned a 99.8% likelihood the image was AI-generated (pictured below).
