If you spot something online that you think might be misinformation you can now report it directly through our WhatsApp tipline. Your tip will be forwarded to our reporters for further investigation but we will also automatically perform a search for you and see if we already have a fact check that might match with the claim in your tip. You can also use the tipline to immediately see our latest fact checks directly in WhatsApp, perfect for breaking news situations.
To access the tipline simply click this link if you are on WhatsApp, send a WhatsApp chat message to the number +1 (404) 655-4223 or scan this QR code with your phone:
This is a brand new initiative that will exist alongside our existing [email protected] email address and our WhatsApp Channel where we already publish links & video summaries of all our fact checks every day.
The tipline has been created in collaboration with Meedan using their "Check" platform.
To use it, simply send a message to it on WhatsApp:
Tap on "Main menu" to get an overview of the available options:
Select the "Ask question or send tip" option:
Type your question, send it and tap the "Submit" button:
If a fact check that matches your question is available, it will be sent right to you. If not, your question will be forwarded to our reporters who will let you know when a fact check about your question becomes available.
We hope this tipline will come in handy for you during the election season but of course you can also use it for questions about other topics that we have fact checks for. Note: on our "How We Work" page there is an entire section that explains what kind of content we typically fact check, feel free to read it before sending us a tip.
