Fake News: Pat Robertson Did NOT Say Global Warming Won't Affect America Because God is Protecting Trump

Did Pat Robertson say global warming won't affect America because God is protecting Trump? No, that's not true: the fake quote was launched by a satirical website. Even though it went viral it is not true.

The story originated from an article published by The Business Standard News on December 26, 2018 titled "Robertson: Global Warming Won't Affect America Because God is Protecting Trump - The Business Standard News" (archived here) which opened:

Televangelist Pat Robertson has released some predictions for the New Year. And he claims that the United States will be protected from the ravages of climate change because of President Donald Trump.

"A few years ago, God came to me in a dream and said that if America elected Trump, he would protect us from the effects of global warming," said Robertson on "The 700 Club." "America had been sliding away from God, what with the '60s and Obama, but now we are back in God's good graces, nothing bad is going to befall us."

Like Robertson, the majority of Evangelicals are still solidly behind the bumbling Trump, who was recently accused of running national security based on his gut. Eighty-one percent of Evangelicals backed Trump.

The website The Business Standard News (at bizstandardnews.com) is a fake news website that publishes satirical parody articles according to the about page:

The Business Standard News is a satirical site designed to parody the 24-hour news cycle. The stories are outlandish, but reality is so strange nowadays they could be true.

The site has been in operation since at least July 25, 2015 when it published a satirical article claiming the KKK had endorsed Donald Trump. The articles on the site, the Whois record for the domain name and the @bizstandardnews twitter account all identify "Jamal Whiteman" as the author behind the site although the Pat Robertson article was credited to "Rondell Pettus".
