Fact Check: Head Of German Hospital Who Committed Suicide Did NOT Say 'COVID-19 Vaccine Is A Genocide' Did Not Say It

Did the head of a German hospital who committed suicide describe the COVID-19 vaccine as genocide and a crime against humanity? No, that's not true: Online publications reported unsubstantiated claims of a suicide note from the physician that said those things, but the claims were dismissed by German authorities, who investigated the death, and by municipal officials.

The claims appeared in an article (archived here) published on the STESS News website on November 17, 2021, under the title "Germany | Dr Thomas Jendges Head of Clinic, Commits Suicide 'COVID-19 Vaccine Is a Genocide.'" It opened:

The Chief of a Clinic in Chemnitz, Germany committed suicide. In a letter found on the scene, he explains that he can no longer be part of the Genocide.

On Tuesday, Dr Thomas Jendges, Head of the Chemnitz Clinic, committed suicide by jumping from the top of the clinic's building in Flemmingstrasse, Germany, according to Bild . He was 55 years old.

The claims reported by STESS News and at least one other online publication cite a report of an alleged farewell letter from Jendges following his death on November 2, 2021. The report appeared on November 5, 2021, in a German-language post on Telegram by someone identified as Dr. Luisa Antonelli. Telegram is a social media platform and messaging app. This is how the post looked on November 24, 2021:

This is what the post says in English, according to Google Translate:

On the suicide of the managing director of the Flemming Hospital in Chemnitz‼ ️
Head of the Flemming Str. Chemnitz Clinic - jump from the clinic building
From police circles he left a farewell letter to his employer, in which he confirmed that the constant lying and cheating on the patients and vaccinated, that vaccinations are harmless, that vaccinating with experimental, deadly covit-19 vaccines on the population is condemned, it is in truth about a bio-warfare agent, and condemns their use as camouflaged covit-19 vaccines.
It is genocide and a crime against humanity that is being carried out on the population here, and since even the mayor threatened to resign if he did not vaccinate patients in the hospital. And if he could not support such a crime by the federal government and the state government and their henchmen, he set the only way to set an example with his suicide or suicide, and asked to publish this letter in his farewell letter, what the mayor learned about and what it was Have prevented publication so far.

Of course, this publication is prevented.
Put an end to these lies and cheats!
Peter Schulte (50)

Lead Stories could find no listing in Germany for a physician with the name "Dr. Luisa Antonelli." The only other online presence we were able to find for that name was a Google account with the same profile picture. The post misidentifies the mayor of Chemnitz as Peter Schulte. His name is Sven Schulze.

At the time of Jendges' death on November 2, 2021, Schulze said this in a statement on the city's website:

I am deeply affected and my thoughts and deepest compassion are with his family and friends these minutes.

German police investigated Jendges' death, according to the German Press Agency (dpa). A spokesman told dpa on November 9, 2021, that the police department was not aware of any suicide note. Separately, a spokesman for Schulze told the news agency this on November 10:

No, we are not aware of any farewell letter.

In an August 31, 2021, press release translated with Google Translate, Jendges appeared to be in favor of COVID-19 vaccinations:

Vaccination considerably reduces the risk of infection and serious illness from Sars-CoV-2. That is why we are happy to offer this low-threshold vaccination option.

CORRECTION: Updated to correct Jendges' title. There is no evidence he was a Medical Doctor.
