Fact Check: This Baby Was NOT Born Without Eyes -- It Is An Edited Image Photo Edited

Was this baby born without eyes? No, that's not true: This Facebook post claiming to show a baby with no eyeballs has been photo edited. The baby's open mouth has been placed over its eyes to make it appear to have no eyes. Examples of this are on Imgur, a photo-sharing website.

The claim appeared in a Facebook post (archived here) on April 10, 2022. It reads:

Born with no Eyes😭
Happy birthday to Him🎂🥂
Only heartless will skip 😢

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

The post cites zero sources as to where this image came from. With the Facebook user using the phrase, "Only the heartless will skip," it is clear this post is meant to get a reaction from readers.

A non-edited image of this baby could not be found in TinEye, a reverse image search engine.

On Google Images, a reverse image search of this picture resulted in multiple links of the same image. Some are from Imgflip, a website where users can create their own memes.

On Imgur, a photo-sharing website, one user created a post of this image with the title, "Babies with mouths for eyes are always fun" on April 12, 2013. Other photos on Imgur fit that description. Some of the comments underneath this Imgur post showed discomfort and fear: "This is literally going to creep into my dreams and ruin my nights sleep!" and, "I suppose that rules out sleeping for me tonight. Suppose I'll browse Imgur some more."
