Was Samuel Hydén (or Sam Hyde) the perpetrator of a school shooting in Örebro, Sweden, on February 4, 2025? No, that's not true: Comedian Sam Hyde is often named as the perpetrator by internet trolls whenever a mass-casualty incident happens. It is a bizarre in-joke that has been going on for years, often using variations of his name to make it sound more local.

This time the claim showed up in an X post (archived here) published on February 4, 2025 after a school shooting that killed several people in Örebro, Sweden. The post read:

School shooter in Örebro confirmed to be Samuel Hydén, 22 year old male. Suspect shot himself but police still on their toes making sure the danger is really over

#örebro #Sweden #tragedy #terror
