Fact Check: Sen. Chuck Schumer's Estimated Net Worth Is NOT $85 Million -- It's Much Less Doesn't Add Up

Does Sen. Chuck Schumer have an estimated net worth of $85 million despite having an annual salary of just $193,400? No, that's not true: Financial disclosures required by law show the New York Democrat and his wife have a combined wealth of no more than $2,665,000. There is no evidence that Schumer has significantly more financial wealth than disclosed. A post stating that amount did not offer proof or sources to back up the claim.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X.com on March 17, 2025. It read:

BREAKING: Chuck Schumer's annual salary: $193,400. His estimated net worth: $85 MILLION. Should DOGE investigate? YES or NO? If Yes, Give me a THUMBS-UP!

This is what the post looked like at the time of writing:

The post does not offer any evidence or proof of that net worth. There are no sources cited nor are there any details that would back up the claim.

Open Secrets (archived here) estimated Schumer's wealth to be $1,122,521 in 2018, the last year available.

Schumer's latest mandatory financial disclosure for 2023 made to the Senate (viewable here, after you agree to certain usage rules) listed $193,400 in income and between $937,000 and $2,665,000 in assets with between $100,000 and $250,000 in liabilities (the disclosure form only shows ranges, not exact amounts). A PDF copy of that report is available here.
