Fact Check: X Account Of Dropkick Murphys NOT Suspended After 2025 Boston Concert Comments -- Band Said They Quit Twitter in 2022 Not Related

Was the X account of Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys suspended after they made comments about Elon Musk and MAGA hats during a concert in Boston on St. Patrick's Day, 2025? No, that's not true: The band's founder Ken Casey said they quit Twitter in 2022 after which their handle was taken over by someone pretending to be the band. After a legal complaint the account got suspended at least as far back as June 2024. All of this predated the concert on St. Patrick's Day, 2025.

The claim was implied in a post on Bluesky (archived here) published on March 17, 2025. The post contained an image and the text:

Taken as a whole, the post implied that this March 16, 2025 tweet from Meidas Touch (archived here) predated the suspension of the band's X account https://twitter.com/dropkickmurphys.

The navigation menu on the band's website (archived here) does link to that X account, meaning it is authentic. However, a cursory review of archived versions of the account at The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine revealed that the account suspension message was already there on June 17, 2024 (and possibly earlier):

That sequence of events clearly demonstrates that the suspension of the band's X account could not have been causally linked to their remarks during the March 2025 concert.

Lead Stories reached out to the band's press contact email and received following statement from Ken Casey, the band's founder and vocalist:

We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a Nazi.

Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that--which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended.

Look, we pulled our account because we didn't want to be part of that guy's empire. But if we were still on there, I'm sure he would have suspended us by now.
