Did former Vice President Kamala Harris declare in April 2025 that she intended to run for president in 2028? No, that's not true: A supposed screenshot of an X post by Harris was fake. It came after Harris made her first major speech since her defeat to President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The declaration of intent appeared in an April 30, 2025, post on X (archived here). The text embedded in the supposed screenshot read:
I'm Kamala Harris, and i'm running for President of the United States in 2028.
(Source: X screenshot)
In reality, that screenshot was fake, and as of May 2, Harris had not declared an intention to run for president in 2028.
A search for "2028" on Harris's X account, using the Google site: operator, yielded no results, meaning Harris did not have a post on her X account that mentioned "2028", and Google had not recently indexed one.
If Harris had declared her intention to run for president in 2028, that would undoubtedly have formed the basis of widespread news coverage. However, a Google News search for "Kamala Harris", "running for president" and "in 2028" yielded no relevant results.
The fake X post came on April 30, shortly after Harris made her first major speech since her defeat to President Donald Trump in 2024.
