Fact Check: Liz Cheney And Adam Kinzinger Did NOT Write Warnings About The 'Big Beautiful Bill' Attributed To Them In A Meme Counterfeit

Did Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger write the warnings about the Big Beautiful Bill that have been attributed to them in a viral post? No, that's not true: Kinzinger took to social media to call it out as a fake. The words in the meme do not match public statements or social media posts by the two former Republican members of Congress.

The meme from the lenfosblue Instagram account, taken down by May 26, 2025, was reposted by various users, including in a May 24, 2025 post on Instagram (archived here) on the unlikely.chef account under the title "From Liz Cheney/Adam Kinzinger:" It continued:

To those of you who don't know what's buried in the bill just passed by the GOP Congress. Prepare yourself:

This is what the post looked like on Instagram at the time this fact check was written:

Kinzinger posted a reply on the lenfosblue account on Threads, saying "This is completely false and not from Liz or Me."

On his own Threads account, Kinzinger posted the same message on May 25, 2025, adding:

This is totally untrue. Please guys it's conspiracy

Lead Stories looked for the supposed Cheney and Kinzinger statement online.

There was no sign of it on Cheney's Threads account, on which there is no post after November 6, 2024. Nor did it appear on her Facebook account, to which she had not posted since November of 2024. She had not posted to her X account since May 9, 2025, which was 13 days before the bill passed the U.S. House, 215-214.

Kinzinger's Threads account carried the denial.

Lead Stories searched for the opening line of the meme on Google News, which indexes thousands of news sites. It found no instances of evidence-based reports that Cheney and/or Kinzinger made the critiques that appear in the meme.

Kinzinger, from Illinois, served six terms in Congress while Cheney served three terms, representing Wyoming. Both are Republicans. They often work in concert on various political and policy programs that oppose Trump and the elements of the Republican Party that support him.
