Did a photograph shared widely in June 2025 show California's first partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom shopping in Beverly Hills during anti-ICE protests and unrest in Los Angeles? No, that's not true: The photograph was actually taken in January 2025. After initially claiming the picture showed Siebel Newsom shopping on June 8, the Daily Mail updated its story and issued a correction.
The claim appeared in a June 10, 2025, post on X (archived here), which included a screenshot of a Daily Mail story from earlier that day. The headline read "California's First Lady shrugs off riots crisis to shop in Beverly Hills" and was accompanied by a photograph of Siebel Newsom walking down the street holding a coffee.

In reality, the photo did not show Siebel Newsom shopping in Beverly Hills, or anywhere else, during anti-immigration enforcement protests in Los Angeles in June 2025. The photo was taken in January.
When the Daily Mail story was first published on June 10, the caption under the photograph of Siebel Newsom suggested it was taken on June 8:

However, after Newsom's press office complained about the inaccuracy on X on June 11, the Daily Mail updated the caption under the photograph to read:

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Jennifer Siebel Newsom was shopping in Beverly Hills on Monday. The photographs of Ms Siebel Newsom in Beverly Hills were in fact taken in January.
