Did Stephen Colbert and Rachel Maddow announce a new show together, after CBS cancelled "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" in July 2025? No, that's not true: Maddow's blog called the story "false news". The rumor was published on a relatively obscure blog and reposted on Facebook.
The fake story appeared in a July 20, 2025, blog post (archived here) with the headline:
"SHOCKING TWIST: AFTER THE LATE SHOW CANCELLATION, STEPHEN COLBERT TEAMS UP WITH RACHEL MADDOW FOR EXPLOSIVE NEW SHOW--IS THIS THE FUTURE OF LATE-NIGHT TV?"
The post began:
"Shocking Twist: Stephen Colbert Teams Up with Rachel Maddow for Explosive New Show - Is This the Future of Late-Night TV? A Bold Reunion That Could Redefine Entertainment, Leave CBS Regretting Its Decision, and Keep Audiences Hooked!"
A Stunning Comeback in the Making
In a turn of events that has the entertainment world buzzing, sources close to the industry suggest that Stephen Colbert, fresh off the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, is set to join forces with MSNBC's powerhouse host Rachel Maddow for an electrifying new venture.
This is what it looked like at the time of writing:

As well as appearing in that blog post, the story was re-posted in widely-shared Facebook posts (archived here).
Maddow's own blog quickly refuted the claim, writing on July 22 (archived here):
Nope. No "shocking twist," no "jaw-dropping turn of events," no "explosive new program." As much as Rachel loves Stephen Colbert, the idea that they have announced a show together is a false news figment of Facebook posts.
