Fact Check: X Engineering Did NOT Post Bookmarks Will Be Public Starting Next Week -- Fake Screenshot From Parody Account Fake Post

Did X Engineering post that "bookmarks will be public for accounts that are not subscribed to X Premium" starting next week? No, that's not true: A falsified screenshot showed such a post made on July 10, 2025 but in reality it did not appear on the account. The faked screenshot originally appeared on a parody account on X.

The faked screenshot appeared in a post on X (archived here) published on July 11, 2025. It showed a screenshot supposedly from the @XEng account on X that read:

Starting next week, bookmarks will be public for accounts that are not subscribed to X Premium. Transparency is the future.

This is what the fake screenshot looked like:

However, @opiumpere (archived here), the account that posted the image, has a bio that notes it is a parody account:

speaking the truth and only the truth | carti and ari enthusiast | parody account

A search for the phrase "bookmarks will be public" limited to the @XEng account did not return any results (archived here) and neither did a Google search for that phrase limited to links containing "x.com/XEng" (archived here), indicating such a post was never made.
