Has Ghislaine Maxwell been cleared to leave prison on work release? Here is what we know: On August 1, 2025 the federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to Lead Stories that Maxwell had been moved to the federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, a minimum-security all women facility. On August 11, 2025 podcaster Allison Gill published an article based on an electronic file from an anonymous source. Cropped fragments of the file included in the article appear to contain scoring codes related to Maxwell's custody. Gill points out the code under "Custody" reads "OUT" stating that this "allows her to leave the minimum security campus for work assignments" -- Gill compares this to Jeffrey Epstein's "sweetheart deal". Gill then questioned how this could be if sex offenders are not allowed to take assignments outside the facility. Later reports that cited Gill's article turned her question into a statement. On August 12, 2025 Raw Story wrote, "Ghislaine Maxwell cleared to leave prison on work release: report". That same day Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, called out a post referencing Gill's reporting, calling it "another false rumor," in a post on X.
The bold headline of an article published by Raw Story on August 12, 2025 reads, "Ghislaine Maxwell cleared to leave prison on work release: report" (archived here) The article opened:
Convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has reportedly been cleared to leave prison on work release.
Podcast host Allison Gill obtained information about Maxwell's security score, sex offender waiver, and other details after the former partner of Jeffrey Epstein was moved to a minimum-security prison in Texas.
This is how the article appeared at the time of writing:

The Raw Story article continues:
Podcast host Allison Gill obtained information about Maxwell's security score, sex offender waiver, and other details after the former partner of Jeffrey Epstein was moved to a minimum-security prison in Texas.
Gill's August 11, 2025 article (archived here) titled, "EXCLUSIVE: I Have Ghislaine Maxwell's Security Score, Custody Level, Transfer Code, and Sex Offender Waiver" which is published on the substack blog of the podcast "Mueller, She Wrote". The article begins by introducing seven questions which were posed by Sheldon Whitehouse the Senator for Rhode Island in a letter dated August 11, 2025 (archived here) to Federal Bureau of Prisons director William K. Marshall III, requesting all documents related to Maxwell's transfer.
Gill does not name the source of the exclusive information on which the article is based. She writes:
According to a report I have reviewed provided by a source who wishes to remain anonymous, I can reveal some of the information requested in numbers 5 - 7 of Senator Whitehouse's letter.
The information is offered in the form of small cropped images, the coded data in the document appears to have been photographed from a computer monitor. These images are interspersed with annotations from Gill (pictured below). This document may be real, but as presented, in fragments and without a source -- it is unverifiable.

An August 12, 2025 post on X (archived here) from Roger Parloff, senior editor at Lawfare, linked to Gill's article. It was reposted by Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus with his own comment (archived here):
Another day, another false rumor about Ghislaine meant to unnecessarily inflame folks.
