Fact Check: Truth Social Image Of Trump Calling For 'Kill Switch' On Phones So ICE Can 'Kill' Video Recording Is Satire Satire Post

Did President Trump post on his Truth Social account a call for cellphone companies to add software kill switches to phone cameras so ICE and "my SS" could "kill" video recording and sharing? No, that's not true: The image, which also contained the signature catchphrase "Thank you for your attention to this matter," did not show a real post from Trump's Truth Social account. Language used such as "my SS," "making a immigration illegal again," and "proud ICE boys" suggests it was created as a satirical commentary on events in which ICE agents have clashed with citizens recording them with cell phone cameras.

The image appeared in a post (archived here) shared "Gavin Newsom for President 2028" Facebook Group page on January 26, 2026, under the caption "💥💥 Stop filming ICE.... 🤔🤯". It read:

I am calling on cellphone companies to add software kill switches to phone cameras so that ICE and my SS can "kill" video taking and sharing. We are making a immigration illegal again, but just like making an omelette you have to break a few eggs. And these one off minor "mistakes" are being weaponized against are proud ICE boys in the field. You will be required to accept the software update when ready, or possession of the phone will be a felony. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This is what the image looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

While the "my SS" could refer to the Secret Service that protects the president, it could be interpreted as reference to the German Nazi Party's "Schutzstaffel," a paramilitary organization known as the "SS." The "proud ICE boys" reference appears to be a satirical reference to the "Proud Boys," an American far-right, neo-fascist militant organization.

Lead Stories searched for the phrase "add software kill switches" on the @realDonaldTrump Truth Social account of President Trump and did not find any matching posts (archived here).

A Google search (archived here) for the sentence "I am calling on cellphone companies to add software kill switches to phone cameras so that ICE and my SS can "kill" video taking and sharing" returned no results.

The earliest instance of this post on Facebook was found on the "Gavin Newsom for President 2028" group page, which is not affiliated with Newsom's presidential campaign since no such campaign exists. Meta transparency data showed the page was known as "Office Memes" until it changed its name to the current one on August 22, 2025.
