Did Chelsea Clinton tweet, "Close but no cigar Trump!!!" while claiming there was a conspiracy to disparage her father's name? No, that's not true: This is a fake screenshot. Chelsea Clinton never posted a tweet with this loaded satirical wording. Additionally, usernames on X are displayed with an @ sign, while the ChelseaClinton username pictured in the fake screenshot does not have one.
The fake tweet appeared in a post (archived here) on X by @Sassafrass_84 on Feb. 19, 2026. It was captioned:
Nobody is buying ya bs.
The text of the fake tweet reads:
The vast right wing conspiracy wants to disparage my father's good name with fake entries and AI photos in Epstein files. The American people know better. Close but no cigar Trump!!!
This is the fake screenshot included with the post:

The wording of the tweet is clearly satirical, with the mention of the cigar (archived here) and "the vast right-wing conspiracy" (see Hillary Clinton on the Today Show in 1998 archived here).
The screenshot in the post is fabricated; a username on X begins with @. The screenshot (pictured below) shows how the real @Sassafrass_84 username displays on X. The fabricated tweet, purportedly from Chelsea Clinton, has no @.

A search on Clinton's X account for a portion of the quote, "The vast right-wing conspiracy wants to disparage my father's good name" did not produce any results. A search of Google News' index of the contents of thousands of news sites, for her name, and the same quote (archived here) also produced no results.
Clinton did post a tweet (embedded below) on Feb. 10, 2025 and pinned it to the top of her feed. She mentioned "lies and conspiracies about my family".
Lies and conspiracies about my family and me are nothing new. Still, I am particularly troubled by the absurd claims that continue to pervade social media this week, fact checks be damned.
