Did police discover the body of an elderly woman in a Pima County suburb with clothing found at the scene that closely resembled what Nancy Guthrie was wearing before her disappearance? No, that's not true: "This is not factual," the public information officer for the Pima County Sheriff's Department told Lead Stories. As of February 5, 2026, "TODAY" show host Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, was still missing.
The claim appeared in a February 4, 2026, video posted on TikTok account @news136588 (archived here). It opened with a voice over saying:

"This is not factual," Angelica Carrillo, public information officer with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, told Lead Stories via email on February 5, 2026.
The footage posted on TikTok uses clips from various news reports showing Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, images of Savannah and Nancy Guthrie, and aerial footage of Nancy Guthrie's home in Tucson, Arizona.
There is also a clip of an officer next to a police vehicle that says Lake County Sheriff. It matches online photos of the Ford Interceptors used by Lake County Illinois, 1,600 miles from Pima CountyArizona, where Savannah's mother went missing, as this screenshot shows:

Sheriff Nanos held a press conference on February 5, 2026, and did not say an elderly woman's body was found in the county. He said, "We believe Nancy is still out there," as NBC News12 Arizona reported (archived here).
