Fact Check: Trump Quote About Attacks From '17 Different Angles' Involving Carrier Was About U.S. Attacking Venezuela -- NOT Iran Venezuela

Was a Donald Trump quote from a video really about Iran hitting the "world's biggest aircraft carrier" from "17 angles" while planes were taking off every 32 seconds at one in the morning? No, that's not true: The quote was pulled from a longer video in which it is clear Trump was describing the hypothetical reaction of a Venezuelan general to U.S. strikes on that country. He did not say Iran hit an aircraft carrier or that Americans said they "ran for our lives".

The claim appeared in a post on X (archived here) where it was published on March 28, 2026 It read:

#BREAKING
Trump: Iran hit the world's biggest aircraft carrier from the 17 angles we ran for our lives, it was over.

This is what the first frame of the video in the post looked like:

The words Trump speaks in the video fragment were:

We knew there was a problem when we noticed at 1:00 in the morning every 32 seconds another airplane, a very fast plane was coming off the deck of an aircraft carrier. That's actually the biggest aircraft carrier in the world. And every 32 seconds, boom, boom, boom. And it was 1:00 in the morning. So we said, "Okay, I think we're in trouble." But they were ready for us, Johnny. And we were ready. He said, "We were ready." And then they hit us and they came from 17 different angles. They were here, they were there, they we ran for our lives. It was over and uh...

However the full video was published hours before the post on the NDT YouTube channel (archived here) under the title "LIVE: Trump Delivers Remarks at FII PRIORITY Summit". It was described there as:

President Donald Trump delivers remarks at the FII PRIORITY Summit in Miami, Florida, at 5:30 p.m. ET on March 27.

The transcript of Trump's words in that video make it clear in the part about the carrier he was speaking about the operation that took place in Venezuela, not about Iran, and that the people who got attacked from 17 angles and who ran were Venezuelans:

I mean to think the and we have the technology nobody has. Look at what happened in Venezuela. They had other equipment, not ours. They made the mistake of using other equipment. Didn't work too well. And uh Venezuela was, you know, was took 45 minutes. It was a 45 minute war.

This one's bigger. This one's bigger. It's a bigger country. A lot a lot uh more powerful. It's a lot more powerful, but it's not powerful anymore. Within two days, I think the damage was done, but now it's really done. Now we're just going after targets. And they again, they have no anti-aircraft, so we're just floating over the top looking for whatever we want. And we're hitting it. And we have another 3,554 targets left and that'll be done pretty quickly. And then we, you know, at some point we're going to have to determine what we do. But they have uh they've never seen anything like it.

When uh we hit Venezuela, and you know that's a very strong military country. They have soldiers if you've ever been there. I've been there. They have a lot of soldiers walking around all over the place. Everyone's a soldier. Very military kind of a place.

And the general there was a general professional general really good. And he said: "We were all set for him. We knew there was a problem when we noticed at 1:00 in the morning every 32 seconds another airplane, a very fast plane, was coming off the deck of an aircraft carrier. That's actually the biggest aircraft carrier in the world. And every 32 seconds, boom, boom, boom. And it was 1:00 in the morning". So we said, "Okay, I think we're in trouble." But they were ready for us, Johnny. And we were ready. He said we were ready. "And then they hit us and they came from 17 different angles. They were here, they were there, they... we ran for our lives". It was over and uh it [clears throat] was over.

And then we took this guy who was a very bad guy and within literally minutes he was in the back of a helicopter in a house that was in a big military base with thousands and thousands of soldiers. The house was all steel with steel doors, steel everything. They had the small steel doors, the big storage...
