Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Real Attacker Threatening Michael Jackson With A Rifle On Stage -- It Was A Scripted Concert Scene Staged Scene

Does a video show a real attacker threatening Michael Jackson with a rifle on stage? No, that's not true: The footage shows a staged theatrical moment from Jackson's 1996-1997 HIStory World Tour. The scene took place during "Earth Song," which explored themes of environmental destruction and human conflict.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) by the @StreetFightsHQ account on X on May 14, 2026. It read:

This is easily one of the most shocking moments in concert history as Michael Jackson was right in the middle of performing Earth Song when someone pulled a weapon on him

This is what a screenshot from the clip in the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

Lead Stories found two professional recordings of "Earth Song" from the HIStory tour in July 1997, showing the scene in two European cities, with a different actor portraying the soldier in each recording. The first is from Munich (archived here) and the second is from Basel, Switzerland (archived here). Both are embedded below:

Munich

The actor portraying the soldier in the social media post matches the performer who appeared in the Munich concert footage. The only difference is that the image has been flipped side to side.

Basel, Switzerland

Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) for the words: "Michael Jackson" and "man with weapon on stage during concert." Neither search found matching reports. Had a man with a rifle stormed on stage during one of Jackson's concerts, major news outlets would likely have covered it extensively.
