Fact Check: FAKE Mugshot Shows Woman Arrested For Disguising Herself As A Man To Enter A BBQ Competition It's Satire

Is a mugshot real showing a Texas woman arrested for disguising herself as a man to win an "All-Male BBQ Competition"? No, that's not true: The post originated on a self-described satire site. The original post was labeled satire and comedy. There were no news reports of a woman winning a barbecue contest disguised as a man and getting arrested.

The claim appeared in a June 8, 2026, post on X account @Theveripost (archived here). It opened:

TEXAS WOMAN ARRESTED FOR

"DISGUISED AS A MAN' TO ENTER ALL-MALE BBQ COMPETITION, WON FIRST PLACE

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The image and headline about a Texas woman getting arrested for disguising herself as a man to win a barbecue competition originated on a June 6, 2026, post on the Instagram account @worldswildestmoments (archived here). The caption includes hashtags #funny, #satire, #comedy, #bbq and #FORENTERTAINMENTONLY, clearly stating it is a joke, as this screenshot shows:

Had there been a real mugshot of a woman arrested in Texas for dressing up as a man to enter a barbecue competition, it would have been reported in the news. Lead Stories searched Google (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) and found other fact checks debunking the story but did not find any legitimate news reports about the woman's mugshot or her arrest.
