Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Swedish Soccer Player Lucas Bergvall Saying 'Please Stop Voting for Mass Migration' Quote Changed

Does a video show Swedish World Cup footballer Lucas Bergvall saying, "Please stop voting for mass migration"? No, that's not true: The quote attributed to him on social media does not match what Bergvall said in a video interview, nor was it from the World Cup in June 2026. When translated into English, Bergvall's words concerned a then-upcoming match against Poland on June 27, 2026, not immigration.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) by the @MattWallace888 account on X on June 22, 2026. It read:

Swedish Soccer player Lucas Bergvall responds to going viral

'I appreciate all the love and support'

'To every woman who has a crush on me, please stop voting for mass migration, or my people will not exist anymore'

This is what the image included in the post looked like:

The clip with Bergvall is in Swedish and was translated into English by Google Gemini (archived here); this is what was said:

Interviewer: How do you visualize your role in this upcoming match against Poland, in this final?

Lucas Bergvall: Well, like you said, it felt good to get some minutes in the previous match. And then against Poland, it's up to the coach to decide who plays, but I'm ready whether I get to start, come on as a sub, or not play at all. So yeah, it feels good.

The interviewer started to ask another question, but the clip ended. Nothing in the video was about migration.

The clip is an excerpt from a longer interview with Bergvall by ViaplaySportSE (archived here). It was not recorded during the World Cup in June 2026 but was uploaded to TikTok on March 29, 2026. The video's description, translated into English by TikTok, read:

Lucas Bergvall about the playoff final: "Dreamed of the World Cup since I was little" ⚽️

Lead Stories also translated (archived here) the full interview into English using Google Gemini, and there was again no mention of migration; this is what was said:

Interviewer: How do you visualize your role in this match against Poland, in this final?

Lucas Bergvall: Well, as you said, it was nice to get to come on in the last match, and then against Poland, it's up to the coach who plays. But I'm still happy whether I get to come on, start, or not play at all, so it feels good.

Interviewer: 120 minutes?

Lucas Bergvall: (Laughs) I don't know, but yeah, you have to do what's required if that's what happens.

Interviewer: You have experience playing in this arena from some Cup...

Lucas Bergvall: Yeah, it's fun to get to play a match like this in front of a sold-out Strawberry [Arena], and there is a spot for the World Cup at stake, so it's incredibly fun to look forward to it.

Interviewer: How big is the World Cup for you? Is it the biggest?

Lucas Bergvall: Yeah, probably. Probably among the biggest things you as a football player can experience. And something you've dreamed about...

Interviewer: ...and watched? Do you have any specific memory?

Lucas Bergvall: Yeah, some match then... Incredibly, incredibly fun. Yeah, I remember when we made it to the quarterfinals, then... I'm not super old, but I have some World Cup tournaments that I remember. France there, and then when Germany [won] too, so...

Interviewer: ...your family then, are they coming along? They're football-crazy, aren't they? Is there any specific coach or person you want to see in the stands on Tuesday?

Lucas Bergvall: Well, I haven't really chosen yet, there are many people who have reached out.

Interviewer: Time is short, is it about tickets and all that?

Lucas Bergvall: No, (laughs) but of course, you want as many tickets as possible. Obviously family first, and loved ones, then after that, you have to sort it out based on how many people have reached out.

Interviewer: Poland, the opponents--what characterizes them?

Lucas Bergvall: Well, they're a good team that has shown they are good, and of course, they have Lewandowski up front. But we should focus on ourselves and do what we are good at. We put in a really good performance against Ukraine last time in all areas, so we will take a lot from that match, enter this match with good self-confidence here at Strawberry, and go out to win.
