Did President Donald Trump post an AI-generated video along with the caption about Kharg Island being "blown to smithereens" on Truth Social? Yes, that's true: The post was published on Trump's official Truth Social account on Aug. 30, 2026. There are no reports indicating that the video or such an attack are real.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the account @atrupar on X on Aug. 30, 2026. It included a video of Trump's Truth Social post with a caption that read:

Trump's Truth Social post (archived here) was made on Aug. 30, 2026. It included the same video seen in the post made by the @atrupar account on X. The caption of the Truth Social post read:
Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT

The video that Trump posted is not real. Results from several AI detection tools -- Hive Moderation, ZeroGPT, and FauxLens -- concluded that the video is likely AI-generated. Screenshots of the results from each tool are included below:

The unusual nature of the explosions in the video, the relative calmness of the person in the video while the highly dramatic scene unfolds, and the absence of an official source for the video also suggest that the video is a creation, not real footage.
News searches on Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) show that although Trump published the Truth Social post, no actual attack has been made on Kharg Island. In response to a question about Trump's post, Vice President JD Vance said that the president "would be the first to say he doesn't make announcements about military actions on social media, but I think that he's sending a message to the Iranians" (archived here).
Kharg Island (archived here), located in the Persian Gulf near Iran, is a key location in the current U.S. and Israeli war with Iran, as much of its oil exports pass through the island. Earlier this year, it was reported that Trump was aiming to seize the island (archived here).
