Did WOIO, Cleveland's Channel 19, report that "Four former staffers have accused Sherrod Brown of sexual assault" in a one-minute segment? No, that's not true: According to Hive Moderation, the voiceover of this fabricated clip is AI-generated and a search of the WOIO website shows no matching news reports. Searches of Google News and Yahoo News did not find any reports of these sexual assault allegations against Sherrod Brown but there is reporting from NewsGuard that this fake TV news video is linked to a Russian influence operation.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the @ROYALMRBADNEWS account on X on Oct. 26, 2026. It read:
Four former staffers have accused Sherrod Brown of sexual assault between 2019 and 2024, with incidents alleged in his Senate office, a hotel room, and even a Senate hearing room. One victim describes Brown kissing her neck before trying to drag her into the private bathroom.

The @ROYALMRBADNEWS account on X is not the first account to post the video. According to the Oct. 27, 2026, report from NewsGuard (archived here), a media credibility rating company, and comparison of the UTC timestamps using PopStats date extractor, the @X_Global_tv account posted the video (archived here) at 6:58 p.m. UTC on Oct. 26 -- more than seven and a half hours before the @ROYALMRBADNEWS post at 2:35 a.m. UTC on Oct. 27, according to extracted timestamps. Since then, X has suspended the @X_Global_tv account.
NewsGuard attributed the video to the Russian influence operation Storm-1516 with several points of circumstantial evidence:
Based on NewsGuard's assessment of the video's format and amplification pattern, it appears to be the handiwork of Russian influence operation Storm-1516, which fabricates articles and videos that impersonate legitimate media outlets. The Gnida Project, an anonymous research group, attributed the fake Cleveland 19 video to Storm-1516 in an Oct. 26 X post.
The opening seconds of the one-minute clip show real footage of Cleveland 19 news anchor Nichole Vrsansky. The real Oct. 21, 2026, news broadcast (embedded below) begins with Vrsansky saying a few of the same words, "Also breaking now, we are learning more about the..." but at this point the transcript of the two videos diverges. The real news segment was about an attack ad against Dr. Amy Acton, a candidate for Ohio's governor. The fabricated news video has an AI-generated voiceover about "sexual assault allegations made against former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown". Both videos show the same time and temperature in the lower right corner.
This is the real newscast (archived here) posted Oct. 21, 2026, on the YouTube channel of 19 News:
The real news segment begins:
Also breaking now, we're learning more about the controversial attack ad against Ohio governor candidate Dr. Amy Acton. Vivek Ramaswamy is taking responsibility for that ad. Keith Grant joining us live in the newsroom now with the latest developments, Keith...
The transcription of the fake video follows:
Also breaking now, we're learning more about the sexual assault allegations made against former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. At least four former staffers have accused Brown of sexual assault. All of them allege they were assaulted between 2019 and 2024 in locations including his Senate office, a hotel room, and even a Senate hearing room. One of the women alleged that Brown kissed her neck, then grabbed her arm and tried to drag her into the private bathroom at his Senate office in 2023. Another woman said Brown pressed his face into her groin and demanded she spread her legs. Shalisha Bamberg, who worked as a legislative fellow in the office of Senator Sherrod Brown, is among the women who have come forward to describe their experiences with him. Bamberg says Brown once came up from behind her and grabbed her buttocks. He then said that she had a nice door knocking ass. All the victims said they didn't report the assaults at the time out of concern that they wouldn't be believed given the senator's status.
Lead Stories uploaded a nine-second clip from the start of the fake video to Hive Moderation (archived here). The AI-Generated Content Detection Tool determined that the clip was 88.4% likely to have AI-generated speech (pictured below).
