Fact Check: FAKE Sam's Club Receipts From 1983 And 2026 Show Huge Price Difference For Bread, Milk, Eggs Fake Receipts

Are receipts from Sam's Club in 1983 and 2026 that show a huge price increase over the years real? No, that's not true: There are several signs that the receipts are fake, including nonexistent addresses, an incorrect logo from 1983 and wrong price totals on the receipts. An online detection tool rated the image as 88% likely to be AI generated.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the @teeelatricee account on X on Oct. 4, 2026. It read:

The 4701 SE 29th Midwest City, OK address on the 1983 receipt is not a real address. According to Google Maps (archived here), that incorrect address is located in Del City, OK. This is a screenshot of Google Maps at the time of writing:

The first Sam's Wholesale Club opened on April 7, 1983 at 6521 SE 29th St., Midwest City, OK 73110, according to the Walmart website (archived here).

The address 5000 W Mcdowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85035, on the 2026 receipts does not match the location of a Sam's Club on the same street in Phoenix, AZ at the time of writing. The address of the real Sam's Club location is 8340 W Mcdowell Rd., according to the company's website (archived here).

The original name of the store was Sam's Wholesale Club when it opened in 1983. The logo was not a black diamond shape. The original logo had SAM'S WHOLESALE CLUB over three black lines, according to 1000 Logos (archived here) and Walmart (archived here). This is a screenshot of the 1983 logo from the Walmart website:

The subtotals on both receipts are inaccurate. The 1983 receipt shows $27.51, but the correct sum is $27.52. The 2026 receipt shows $99.34, but the correct sum is $105.32.

Lead Stories entered the image into Sightengine, an online AI-detection tool, which rated the image as 88% likely AI-generated.
