Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show A Large Group Of Muslims Chanting In Dublin In September 2026 -- They Are FC Schalke 04 Hooligans Schalke Hools

Does a video show a large group of Muslims chanting on the streets of Dublin in September 2026? No, that's not true: The video is from about a year earlier and shows a group of fans of the German professional football team FC Schalke 04 marching on Abbey Street in Dublin in October 2025. They were in town for a match.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) by actor, comedian, writer, and producer John Cleese (@JohnCleese) on X on Oct. 1, 2026. It read:

The Religion of Peace

The caption of the video (archived here) shared in Cleese's post by the @WWG1WGA_QQ account on X on Sept. 30, 2026, read:

🚨🇮🇪 Meanwhile in Dublin, Ireland

So this just happened yesterday in the Irish Capital - no Police to be seen anywhere.

If this doesn't terrify you, then you're simply not paying attention.

No these are not Irish people.

This is what a screenshot of the video in the post looked like at the time of writing:

A Google reverse image search (archived here) of the screenshot led Lead Stories to articles about an incident in which a group of German soccer fans (archived here) marched down Abbey Street in Dublin on Oct. 11, 2025, ahead of a match later that day. Supporters of FC Schalke 04 were seen pushing over and kicking a photographer (archived here).

The reporting cited the original post and video (archived here) by the @ClarkeCarly account on X on Oct. 11, 2025. It read:

Today in Dublin, I went to photograph what I thought was a parade. They grabbed my camera & pushed Steve over. They then kicked him in the head, unable to get up they continued to kick him. They were Schalke football hooligans. I'm so appalled & disgusted!! #schalkehooligans
