Ted Cruz: Lures Votes With 'Machine-Gun Bacon'

  • by: Alan Duke

Ted Cruz, desperate to compete with Donald Trump for attention on the right, claims he eats bacon cooked on the hot barrel of a "machine gun," although his viral video involves a semi-automatic rifle.

The Independent Journal Review produced the video titled "Making Machine-Gun Bacon with Ted Cruz" with the Texas senator at a gun range.

"Few things I enjoy more than on weekends cooking breakfast with the family," Cruz says. "Of course, In Texas we cook breakfast a little differently than most folks."

He then wraps a slice of bacon around the barrel of the rifle, apparently a semi-automatic AR-15, and covers it in foil. After a session of shooting, he unwraps the foil and uses a plastic fork to eat the cooked meat.

The video was produced by the same team that also made a video of GOP candidate Lindsey Graham finding creative ways of destroying his cell phone after Trump made his number public at a news conference.

These videos appear to be part of a series of collaborations between presidential candidates seeking to stand out among voters and the conservative IRJ.
