Ben Carson's status as the only candidate near Donald Trump is solidified in the YouGov/CBS News 2016 Battleground Tracker poll released Sunday, September 13, 2015.
The retired neurosurgeon has pulled to just 4 points behind the billionaire in Iowa and Carson some in a "strong second" behind Trump in South Carolina, the survey said. Trump's biggest lead is in New Hampshire with 40%, while Carson is the number two contender with 12%.
This places Trump and Carson alone in a top tier of Republican contenders for the GOP presidential nomination, since the rest of the field is far off their pace. Ted Cruz is third in Iowa and South Carolina, but with just 10% and 6%, respectively.
Jeb Bush, the son and brother of presidents, is missing in action in this poll. He registers just 3% support in Iowa for 8th place; 6% in New Hampshire for 5th; and only 5% for the 4th position in South Carolina.
