Jodi Stachowski, who is seen standing by her man during several episodes of the controversial Netflix series, attacks Avery in an exclusive interview with HLN reporter Natisha Lance that was aired Wednesday on the Nancy Grace Show.
"What do you want people to know?" Lance asked Stachowski, who last lived with Avery a decade ago.
"The truth, what a monster he is," she answered. "And he's not innocent."
She told Lance that she was not in love with Avery, although she stayed with him for two years. "I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go to the hospital and get away from him and ask them to get the police to help me."
Avery was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury found him guilty of murdering a woman. The killing happened after DNA evidence revealed he had been falsely convicted of a 1984 rape, for which he sent 18 years in a Wisconsin prison.
The Netflix documentary series explored accusations that the same sheriff's investigators who he sued for his false conviction had planted evidence that led to his murder conviction.
