  • by: Alan Duke

Donald Trump's domination of the Republican presidential race is growing even stronger with Nevada now showing 45% support for the billionaire, according to the latest CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday, February 17, 2016. Marco Rubio is in a distant second with 19% and Ted Cruz is third with 17%.

The boost in Nevada, which hold its Republican caucuses next Tuesday, February 23, comes just as another survey puts Trump's national support at 39%, twice that of is nearest rival, Rubio, who has 19%. Cruz is at 17%.

If polls hold true, Trump is also poised to take South Carolina's Republican primary on Saturday. A CNN/ORC poll released Monday shows Trump with 38% support among likely GOP voters, compared to Cruz's 22%. Rubio is at 14%.

The New Nevada poll is no only a boost for Trump -- who gained 7% since the last poll in October -- but for Rubio, whose support jumped 19%. Ben Carson, who was second to Trump in Nevada four months ago with 22%, is now fourth with 7%. Rubio's campaign is hoping to become the establishment frontrunner against the rebels Trump and Cruz.

Nevada does not promise to be please for the other establishment hopefuls, since they are at the bottom of the new poll. John Kasich has 5% support and Jeb Bush is barely detectable with just 1%.
