FBI Director James Comey announced Tuesday that his agency would not recommend that Hillary Clinton not be charged criminally for her email practices as secretary of state. The announcement came two days after Clinton sat down with FBI agents to discuss the case. Comey said Clinton and her staff were "extremely careless" with email handling, but it was not criminal.
I know there were many opinions expressed by people who were not part of the investigation -- including people in government -- but none of that mattered to us. Opinions are irrelevant, and they were all uninformed by insight into our investigation, because we did the investigation the right way. Only facts matter, and the F.B.I. found them here in an entirely apolitical and professional way. I couldn't be prouder to be part of this organization.
Donald Trump was watching and he quickly grabbed his smartphone to tweet his disgust, saying "The system is riggered":
The system is rigged. General Petraeus got in trouble for far less. Very very unfair! As usual, bad judgment.

Although Clinton has not tweeted about the decision, her campaign spokesman told the Associated Press that she was "pleased that the career officials" overseeing the investigation "have determined that no further action by the department is appropriate."
