Fake News: It is Still Not Legal To Ram Liberal Protesters With Your Car

Fact Check

  • by: Maarten Schenk

The Conservative Daily Post published an article with the provocative title 'START YOUR ENGINES! PROTESTER "RUN OVER" BILL NOW SPREADING TO MULTIPLE STATES, LEGAL TO RAM LIBS'.

The introduction of the article goes like this:

Driving a car is a serious responsibility. Drivers must at all times remain cognizant and aware of their surroundings, careful not to cause harm to themselves or those nearby. While some accidents cannot be avoided, protesters have done a great job lately at increasing the odds for motorists.

If the driver hits the protester, should the driver be responsible for that?

Now, several states are starting to say no.

That sounds a lot more sensible than the title and is mainly based on earlier reporting from Fox News about efforts from various lawmakers to craft new legislation that would either punish protesters for blocking the flow of traffic or to provide better protection for drivers who accidentally hit one of the protesters.

The word 'ramming' as used in the headline clearly implies intent so this would definitely not be legal. Clearing protesters that are blocking a road is a job for law enforcement agencies, not for self-appointed vigilantes. And running them over would probably be classified as excessive use of force by most judges.

So next time you see a protester blocking your way, keep your foot away from the gas pedal and just call the cops. Running people over is only acceptable as a last form of self defense and you better be prepared to prove you were in imminent danger of grievous bodily harm because judges take this kind of thing very serious and you might end up in jail or on death row.

I hope not too many people believe that ramming liberals is now legal, because the 'news' is being shared like wildfire as theTrendolizer graph below indicates. Let's hope this rumor gets debunked soon by other fact checking sites like Snopes or Hoax Slayer as well. In the mean time, here's what you can do to help stop it:
