Fact Check: Israel Is NOT Struck From List Of 2024 Paris Summer Olympics Competitors As Of June 24, 2024 Will Compete

Is Israel out of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, as of June 24, 2024, as was claimed in a social media post? No, that's not true: As of this writing, Israel remains on the list of 206 national teams entered to compete. Lead Stories could find no evidence that would corroborate the claim that Israel was "out of the Paris Olympic Games." Israel planned to send 85 athletes to Paris, according to The Times Of Israel.

The claim appeared in a Threads post where it was published on June 17, 2024. The post was an image of white text on a black-and-orange background. The on-screen text read:

The post did not include any corroborating or verifying information or evidence that would back up this claim.

An Associated Press article dated March 6, 2024, (archived here) cited International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach as confirming that Israel faces no threat to its Olympic status. As reported in the article, Bach was asked about Israel's teams and athletes not competing in 2024, and he responded with, "No, there is no question about this."

As of June 21, 2024, Israel plans to send 85 athletes to Paris to compete in the summer Olympics, according to a Times Of Israel article (archived here).
