Fact Check: Burger King Did NOT Post 'We Don't Snitch' After Luigi Mangione's Arrest At A McDonald's Fabricated

Did Burger King's X account post "We don't snitch" in response to the alleged killer of the UnitedHealthcare CEO being recognized by a McDonald's employee? No, that's not true: Burger King's public relations confirmed to Lead Stories that this post was made up. Also, the fake post contained the words "Retweets" and "Quote Tweets," words no longer used since Elon Musk bought Twitter and renamed it X. Lead Stories did not find evidence of the fake Burger King post on X.

The claim appeared in a post on X (archived here) on December 9, 2024. The fake post purporting to be from Burger King read:

We don't snitch.

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

Above the "We don't snitch" line, the X user wrote, "Luigi Mangione shouldn't have gone to McDonald's." At the time of writing, Luigi Mangione was charged with murder in the December 4, 2024, shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. On December 9, 2024, multiple news sources reported that a McDonald's employee tipped off police officers to Mangione's presence in a Pennsylvania McDonald's. Lead Stories has contacted McDonald's for confirmation and will update this article when a relevant response is received.

Lead Stories reached out to Burger King about the claim. On December 10, 2024, the company responded, saying in an email:

We can confirm that this did not come from the official Burger King X account. This is a fabricated tweet.

Another indication this alleged Burger King post is not real is the fact that it claims to have received 2,400 "Retweets" and 511 "Quote Tweets." Billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 and renamed it "X," changing "Retweets" to Reposts and getting rid of "Quote Tweets." Evidence of this is below; highlighting by Lead Stories:

Lead Stories searched for the exact post on X, and did not find it (archived here). Evidence pictured below:

At the time this was written, Snopes had reviewed the same claim.
