Fact Check: Henry Cavill Has NOT Been Announced As Next 007 James Bond -- Claim Originated On Parody Account Parody Post

Has "Superman" actor Henry Cavill been announced as the next James Bond? No, that's not true: The account that posted the claim is a parody account. There are no credible reports of Cavill starring in the next 007 film installment as of publication time.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the @DiscussingFake_ account on X on Sept. 12, 2026. It read:

Henry Cavill has been officially announced as the next James Bond. He will star in the upcoming '007' film directed by Denis Villeneuve.

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The account that posted the claim about the Superman actor stepping into the 007 role is clearly a parody account. This is what the post looked like at the time of writing, with the red circle added by Lead Stories showing the parody flag:

The bio in the @DiscussingFake_ account (archived here) reads: Its [sic] Parody Account, Not associated with @DiscussingFilm. This is a screenshot of the account at the time of writing:

Several social media accounts reposted the news without noting that it was from a parody account. One example is @MusicBaseAfrica on Facebook (archived here), as this screenshot taken at the time of writing shows:

Cavill's IMDb page (archived here) does not list him as slated to appear in an upcoming James Bond movie, which had not been updated to reflect any such announcement as of publication time.

The last James Bond movie was the 2021 "No Time to Die" with Daniel Craig.

News of Cavill as the next James Bond would be widely reported. Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) and did not find any credible reports of the announcement.
