Has actor Jim Carrey died as of December 15, 2024? No, that's not true: The actor was seen alive in public following the publication of an article that reported his supposed death. The website that published this article contained other articles that falsely reported celebrity deaths and did not list validating information. No information about Carrey's supposed death was reported on the website of any news outlets indexed by Google News.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) that included a graphic with superimposed text that read, "DIED TODAY" and "RIP," shared to Facebook on December 15, 2024. The caption of the post read:

The post on Facebook making the claim has a picture of a newscaster crying that was used in a celebrity death hoax post about Selena Gomez that Lead Stories previously fact checked. Using Google Images, Lead Stories performed a reverse image search, revealing that the image was an edited still photo from an interview (archived here) by journalist Brooke Baldwin in 2020. Baldwin was crying while discussing the death of George Floyd with Andrea Jenkins, a member of the Minneapolis City Council.
The post on Facebook also included a link to an article saying that Carrey died (archived here). However, the article contains no details about Carrey's supposed death; instead, it is essentially a biography of his professional work.
The website on which the article appears contains several false articles about live celebrities said to have died (archived here), including Jennifer Aniston and Leonardo DiCaprio. The website does not include any information about its ownership, nor are there any contacts listed to find out more about the website. According to WHOIS, a service that provides domain lookups, the website was initially registered in 2022 to "Edik Ghumash" in Kyiv, Ukraine (archived here).
Lead Stories used keywords on Google News to search for the claim that Carrey died (archived here). We found no credible documents or reporting to corroborate the claim. According to the editorial image hosting site Getty Images, Carrey attended the December 16, 2024, Los Angeles premiere of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" (archived here), a movie in which he plays a leading role. The premiere took place one day after the post claiming his death was published.
