Fact Check: Photo of Two Men With Israeli Flags Does NOT Show Embassy Staff Shot Dead Outside Jewish Museum Not Them

Did a photograph shared online show the victims of a May 21, 2025 shooting outside a Jewish museum in Washington D.C.? No, that's not true: The Israeli embassy named Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim as the two embassy staff shot dead. The picture in question showed two men, neither of them Lischinsky, holding Israeli flags.

The claim appeared in a May 22, 2025, post on X (archived here), by the account @Currentreport1. It consisted of a photograph of two men holding Israeli flags, along with text that read:

BREAKING:

2 Israeli embassy staff killed near Jewish museum in Washington DC, United States.

This is what it looked like at the time of writing:

The two men shown in the photograph were not the individuals shot dead on May 21, outside a Young Diplomats event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.

The Israeli embassy named the victims as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, both of whom worked for the embassy and were a couple engaged to be married. On X, the embassy posted a photo of them:

The two victims were manifestly not the same people shown in the @Currentreport1 post. It's not immediately clear who those two men are, but the one on the left bears a resemblance to streamer Ethan Ralph, and the photograph was shared in an online forum about Ralph, in 2022.
