Fact Check: Rep. LaMonica McIver Did NOT Start Singing 'You Fight On' During CNN Interview About Her Arrest -- It's A Parody No Singing

Did Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-NJ, start singing "You Fight On" during a CNN interview about her recent arrest on an assault charge at an ICE facility? No, that's not true: The purported video of the spontaneous singing was digitally created by the administrator of a parody account on X.com. The video's creator acknowledged this in a post, and the account is clearly labeled as parody. Other accounts were taking the video and reposting it as authentic.

The video originated in a post (archived here) published on X by @POTUSnote on May 20, 2025. The parody's caption read:

Can someone tell me how signing [sic] about oppression, after assaulting a Federal Agent, while on CNN at Prime Time makes sense?

This is what the post looked like at the time of writing:

CNN's Brianna Keilar asked Rep. McIver: "Congresswoman, you are now facing a federal charge though. Are you afraid of what's going to transpire now?"

In the parody video, McIver responded by singing: "You fight on. You fight on. You fight on. You fight on. When your government is doing you wrong, you fight on. Oh, you fight on."

This is the actual video from CNN, which shows there was no singing by McIver.

The creator of the video later chided other accounts for reposting his work without credit in this subsequent X post (archived here.)

Rep. McIver was released on her own recognizance after her first court appearance, Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The New Jersey Democrat was charged with assault in connection with an alleged scuffle with immigration officials as they attempted to arrest Newark's mayor at a detention facility.
