Did Italy withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, following the path of the United States? No, that's not true: As of this writing, the most recent version of the document, updated July 9, 2025, still names Italy as one of the treaty's participants. Neither the authorities nor credible media organizations reported the purported withdrawal.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) on X, where it was published on July 9, 2025. It opened:
🇺🇸🇮🇹 After the United States, Italy is also withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement.
This is what it looked like at the time of writing:

A Google search across the website of the Italian government newspaper (archived here) that publishes laws, including the 2016 Paris Agreement ratification notice (archived here), did not show any 2025 notice of Italy's supposed withdrawal from the treaty.
Article 28 (archived here) of the Agreement reads:
At any time after three years from the date on which this Agreement has entered into force for a Party, that Party may withdraw from this Agreement by giving written notification to the Depositary.
But a search across the United Nations Depositary Notifications only showed a single, unrelated document submitted by Italy between January 1, 2025, and this writing: It concerned "Customs Convention concerning spare parts used for repairing EUROP wagons" (archived here) -- not the Paris Agreement.
Searches for Italian (archived here) and English (archived here) keywords on Google didn't show any credible media organization reporting the purported news.
The image reused in the post on X wasn't new or directly related to the Paris Agreement, either. Its description (archived here) on the Reuters website reads:
Italy's newly elected Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni looks on during the swearing-in ceremony at the Quirinale Presidential Palace, in Rome, Italy October 22, 2022.
On June 23, 2025, Politico reported that Italy quit anti-greenwashing talks in the European Union (archived here), but that was not the same as leaving the Paris Agreement (archived here), whose page, as of this writing, still listed Italy as a member.
